About
This is the “me chickening out and telling you the real story” section of the website. Also the page I tend to direct my real life friends to when talking about this blog project.
This blog project started after spending one too many nights thinking, how I no-longer have any idea, what the concept “Finnish beauty” means. Why is this place beautiful? Both in the spiritual and practical sense of things. I had forgotten what is it that’s so good about this place. I wanted to discover it all over again. So I set up the blog, and begun writing on what I had been thinking. To let me write down my feelings and give me a reason to rediscover my homeland. To go out there and find out things.
This got sidetracked a bit on Christmas 2009, when I was ambushed by a pact to go travel for a few days. This meant that I kick-started the blog with a bang without doing too much planning, just writing a travel report in a very particular tone. And it’s stuck that way ever since.
Since the subject of the blog is technically Finland, I’ll try to keep the topics somewhat relevant to that subject. But frankly, there is a part of me that wants to tell about the adventures that I’m experiencing while trying to figure out something about this country. So even when I’m writing “sorry, this post has little to do with Finland and I promise I’ll make it up to you in the next one.” I know I’m lying to your face with that.
The original plan was to write loads and loads. “3 times a week or something, every other day if possible. 1000 words per post.” That’s not happening anymore, it seems. Will try to keep blogging as much as possible. But between writing, working and finding things to write about, I won’t have time to sleep in between.
The “chickening out” part comes here. Even if it’s the tagline of this site, you may not have caught it yet. This blog follows the golden rule of “if you have to choose between the truth and the legend, always print the legend” if reality interferes with an interesting narrative, the reality can go away.
None of the persons mentioned in the blog are really themselves. They are diluted and refined versions of the original, distorted as far as possible to remove their real identity from the story (not just obfuscate) and made to suit the needs of the blog on the expense of who they really are. This also includes me. The narrator of these posts isn’t “me” in the strictest sense. It is me through a certain filter. A character in a story. So if you read the blog and don’t recognize me from the text, even if you know me in real life, don’t be surprised. Or shocked, thinking “Oh my, that’s not the man I knew.”
I’m still the same me. The guy writing in first person just ain’t.
There is also a plan for the site, even if the individual blog postings seem like random ramblings. I hope the plan will come apparent at some point.
